Sealing of Thermal Spray Coatings for HighTemperature Service
Authors: Dr.-Ing. Stefanie Hildebrandt, Dr.-Ing. Lutz-Michael Berger
Sealing of thermal spray coatings for service up to 800°C shows a number of pecularities. In this work a number of new commercial sol-gel-sealers were studied, together with a known aluminium phosphate sealer. In addition, glass sealers were developed and tested, which have a different mode of action compared to conventional sol-gel based sealers. The wetting behavior between the sealer and the coating material, as well as the mass losses during the sealing process, are critical for the success.
