Ultrafine- to nanostructured coatings can be manufactured by thermal spraying
in two ways in principle: First by processing an already ultrafine-structured material
or by generating the structure in situ during the spray process. The article
gives an example for both ways: an ultrafine-structured WC-CoCr spray powder
(HVOF) and a cored wire on the base of Iron (arc spray) for a direct generation
of a nano-crystalline coating.
