Corrosion behaviour of HVOF-sprayed tungstencarbide coatings

Sprayed carbide coatings are used not only with regard to wear protection aspects but also often for corrosion protection at the same time. Nevertheless, corrosion may limit the service life of the coating in unfavourable utilisation conditions. The objectives of this paper are to improve the understanding of the corrosion mechanism of selected standard sprayed carbide materials in aqueous media, to highlight the potential of new spraying materials with regard to corrosive attack aspects as well as to explain the results from a metallurgical viewpoint.
