Thermal spraying with suspensions an economic spray process
Authors: Dr.-Ing. Lutz-Michael Berger, Dr. Filofteia-Laura Toma, Dr. Annegret Potthoff
Suspensions used as feedstocks for atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) and high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying enable coatings with a wide variety of thicknesses, morphologies, and properties to be produced. The economic efficiency of the process depends on the availability of suitable additional system components, e.g., suspension feeders and injectors, and special highly concentrated, stable aqueous suspensions. Significant advances in deposition efficiency and feed rate in relation to solids content have been made over the last few years. These improvements are described in this paper.
