New corrosion resistant carbide materials for hard chrome replacement and industrial applications
Authors: M. Sc. Jonathan Gutleber, Dr. Petr Fiala, Ville Eronen
Newly designed coating materials based on tungsten and chrome carbide hard phases in a corrosion resistant nickel-copper alloy matrix, “Metco 5580A” and “Metco 5280A”, have been developed and characterized as high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) sprayed coatings. These materials are designed to perform in high chloride environments as well as demonstrate increased ductility for crack and impact resistance. Properties and performance of these new coatings are presented and compared to conventional tungsten carbide cobalt chromebased coatings.
