Thermal coatings for the extraction ofcrude oil and natural gas
Author: Dr.-Ing. Frank Schreiber
The global demand for crude oil and natural gas has risen constantly in recent years and is greatly influenced by the cyclical economic development of the industrialised countries. Moreover, there is a strong energy demand from threshold countries such as China or India and this will necessitate additional crude oil capacities. Because of the high price level for crude oil, the extraction of natural gas and crude oil from extreme depths is economically viable but a longer service life of components in drilling technology is a prerequisite for this. Here, coating by means of thermal spraying and weld surfacing can make a great contribution due to the large number of material solutions.
