After studying physics in Dortmund, Thomas Klassen focussed on production and properties of nanocrys...After studying physics in Dortmund, Thomas Klassen focussed on production and properties of nanocrystalline materials at GKSS Research Centre Geesthacht and the University of Illinois. He received his Ph.D. (1993) and Habilitation (2005) in engineering from Technical University Hamburg-Harburg. Since 2005, he is full professor at Helmut-Schmidt-University Hamburg and leads the team for cold spraying, including research on basic mechanisms as well as development of cold spray equipment and various applications. In 2010, he additionally became head of the Institute of Materials Technology at GKSS Research Centre, concentrating on different aspects of renewables, in particular hydrogen technology.
